About Jonathan
Jonathan has an eclectic array of experiences that he hopes to bring together to help you feel your best. He devotes himself to understanding a person as a whole. His ability to listen, communicate, and collaborate is what he dedicates to the people that come to seek therapy with him. Jonathan understands the uniqueness of the individual and supports all forms of therapies that best help each person. He focuses on developing a safe, trusting, and secure relationship by working in a non-judgmental and insightful manner. Curiosity is a primary driving force in his interactions with respect being at the forefront. He believes that working with a person as a whole is integral to health and healing and thus takes an integrative, holistic, trauma-informed approach and incorporates a variety of approaches that are humanistic, client-centered, culturally responsive, and socially just. Jonathan has sought many forms of healing from various parts of the world and understands that some people may experience barriers to beginning the counselling process and hopes to be a respectful, kind, and encouraging participant along your journey while providing guidance that is at your pace.
Jonathan was born in the Philippines and raised in Vancouver. He completed his Bachelor's of Human Kinetics in 2007 from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and sparked a life-long passion for human sciences. Jonathan continued on to attain a Bachelor's of Education from UBC in 2009 to complement his other passions – education, youth-work, and travel. He lived and worked in South Korea for several years, absorbing all he could about cultures, languages, and food. Upon his return to Canada, he became a registered massage therapist in 2018. Currently, Jonathan teaches at Langara Community College in areas of human sciences, massage therapy skills, and professional development. While working as a massage therapist, helping people and movers of all ages and abilities, Jonathan was inspired to again expand his knowledge about the human experience. In 2024, he graduated with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University.
